We would like to officially support the bash shell as a login shell
option, to the same level as the csh shell. We have migrated the csh shell
setup to bash (with much simplification), and now need people to beta test
the environment.

To test, login to linux or solaris and run this on the command line:

/cs/local/generic/bin/reset_config
exec bash -ls

Once you have migrated your own personal environment directives, let me know of any error messages or problems.
To actually switch your default shell to bash, login to
galiano.ugrad.cs.ubc.ca (via Solaris on a SunRay or ssh) and run this on the command line:

/cs/local/bin/chsh

Once the environment is deemed stable, we would like to make it the
default for new accounts, as bash is more widely used in current *nix
distributions.
Current csh/tcsh users will be unaffected, though we will recommend switching.
