Evaluation of a Tool Recommendation System for a Software Development Environment -- Call for Participants
========================================================================================

Have you ever been frustrated from trying to understand the other people’s code?  If so, would you be interested to learn how to work with others’ code more efficiently?  Even if you are confident in your programming skills, would you be interested to see whether there is a way to improve it even further?

Dr. Gail Murphy and I are conducting a study to evaluate the effectiveness of a tool recommendation system that is integrated with IBM’s Rational Team Concert IDE (built on Eclipse).  This study will require approximately 3 hours of your time in our laboratory: 30 minutes to review tutorial materials and to warm up, 2 hours to work on debugging tasks, and 30 minutes for a wrap-up interview.  There will be some breaks in between.

We are looking for individuals with the following qualifications:

1. Have at least 8 months of experience in Java programming (equivalent to 2 courses that involved Java programming).

2. Have at least 2 months of experience in using Eclipse to develop Java program. (email me if you are unsure)

3. Have never contributed to JFreeChart open source project.

Compensation
----------------

For each hour of the study you complete, you will receive a $10 gift certificate to your choice of Amazon.ca or iTunes. The maximum compensation possible for participating in this study is a $30 gift certificate.

Location of our lab
--------------------

ICICS Building, 2366 Main Mall, Room 308

How to sign up
-----------------

If you are interested, please visit this website to give an informed consent:

Once you have given consent, you will be asked to fill out the first questionnaire that assesses your technical background.  Depending on this information, we will inform you by email whether you can continue to participate in the study.

At any time, you can contact me by this email: pviriya@cs.ubc.ca

Thank you very much and I’m looking forward to hearing from you!
